Motion smoothing (also called MEMC or similar names depending on brand) is a TV feature that artificially generates intermediate frames to make motion appear smoother. Despite widespread criticism, major TV brands like LG, Samsung, and Sony still enable it by default. The feature produces unnatural-looking video, introduces input lag, and distorts the original artistic intent of films and games. Unlike Nvidia's GPU-based frame generation, TV chipsets lack the processing power to do this well. The recommendation is to disable motion smoothing in your TV's settings, as there are essentially no downsides to turning it off.
