Anthropic has launched Claude Fable 5, a consumer-accessible version of their Mythos 5 model class. The full Mythos 5 remains restricted to select enterprise customers via Project Glass Wing. Fable 5 is priced at $10/million input tokens and $50/million output tokens — double Opus 4.8 but less than half the Mythos preview price. Benchmarks show strong improvements especially in coding (SWE-bench) and legal tasks, though gains in tool use and computer use are more modest. A notable concern is aggressive safety filtering: even benign biology-related queries (e.g., Ebola outbreak risks for the World Cup) automatically switch the model to Opus 4.8. Anthropic is also introducing a 30-day data retention policy for Mythos-class model traffic, including on third-party platforms. Access to Fable 5 on Pro/Max plans is free until June 22, after which API pricing applies, signaling a potential end to unlimited token subscription plans.
