# New in DevTools - October 2026

**[Chrome Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/chrome)** · 6 min read · 1 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Chrome 153 and 154 bring a batch of DevTools updates: the Chrome DevTools MCP server gains security controls (JavaScript execution toggles, configurable file system roots), performance tuning, and heap snapshot querying for coding agents. The Application panel adds a dedicated Ads sub-panel tracking ad script CPU/network usage and experimental ad density metrics. The Performance panel completes full soft navigation support in Insights, adds CPU performance tier overrides over CDP, and extension track search. Elements gets inactive style indicators and keyboard-accessible adorners, Device Mode reorganizes presets by form factor with newer device models, Network adds edit-and-resend-as-fetch in Console and local overrides security hardening against path traversal, and Memory panel improves heap snapshot filtering and querying. Several accessibility fixes round out the release.

## Questions this post answers

### How do I disable JavaScript execution when using the Chrome DevTools MCP server to inspect a page?

Configure the --no-javascript-evaluation flag or turn off JavaScript execution tools in the Chrome DevTools MCP server, which lets an agent inspect pages without evaluating scripts. The restriction extends across navigations and initialization scripts, useful when auditing untrusted pages without running their code.

_Developers wiring up DevTools MCP agents can track protocol changes like this through daily.dev._

### How can I measure soft navigations in Chrome DevTools Performance panel?

Soft navigation analysis is now available in the Insights view of the Performance panel, completing end-to-end support that began with Live Metrics and trace views in Chrome 152. Together these additions let developers measure soft navigation timing and user experience metrics from start to finish within DevTools.

_Frontend engineers tuning single-page app navigation metrics follow panel updates like this on daily.dev._

### How do I test my site's performance under different CPU hardware tiers using Chrome DevTools Protocol?

DevTools supports the Emulation.setCPUPerformanceOverride command over Chrome DevTools Protocol, which configures, calculates, and dispatches calibrated CPU performance tier overrides. This enables reproducible performance testing across simulated hardware tiers without needing physical devices of varying power.

_Engineers building reproducible performance test suites keep up with CDP capabilities via daily.dev._
