The decision is driven by a 2023 EU law requiring portable gaming consoles to have user-replaceable batteries by 2027. Nintendo will begin rolling out revised versions of select products with user-replaceable batteries starting summer 2026, though the original Switch family will not receive such revisions and will simply be withdrawn from European markets. Sales of Switch 1 consoles will continue outside of Europe. ## Full article daily.dev links to this article rather than hosting it.
