Nintendo of Europe has agreed to pay a €35 million (~$40 million) fine following a French regulatory investigation by the DGCCRF. The regulator found that Nintendo knew about Joy-Con drift defects as early as 2018 but did not inform consumers until 2020, leading customers to purchase unnecessary replacement controllers. The investigation was triggered by a 2020 complaint from French consumer association UFC-Que Choisir. Nintendo stated the settlement does not constitute an admission of guilt.
