Nintendo Q1 sales drop 9.5%; operating profit soars following higher software sales and $300m in US tariff refunds

Nintendo reported a 9.5% drop in Q1 net sales to ¥517.8 billion ($3.2 billion) for the three months ending June 30, 2026, but operating profit surged 150.5% to ¥142.5 billion ($902.7 million). The profit boost was driven by higher software revenue and approximately $300 million in US tariff refunds, which Nintendo says it absorbed rather than passing on to consumers. Switch 2 unit sales fell 34.4% year-on-year to 3.82 million, though cumulative shipments reached 23.68 million. Digital sales jumped 90%, and the IP segment grew 107.4% thanks to The Super Mario Galaxy Movie surpassing $1 billion at the global box office.
