# "Nobody's making games for the retired people" – The growing yet underserved market for grey gamers

**[GamesIndustry.biz](https://daily.dev/sources/gamesindustry)** · 10 min read · 1 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

The games industry is largely ignoring a fast-growing and financially powerful demographic: older gamers aged 55+. Analysts and industry veterans argue that the 40+ segment in the US alone is projected to grow from $19B in 2022 to $43B by 2030, yet developers continue to target younger audiences. Key challenges include poor re-engagement design for players returning after long breaks, inaccessible hardware pricing, and a lack of older designers shaping products. Opportunities highlighted include retro and cosy games, familiar IP revivals, affordable hardware, and email-based marketing. Experts suggest the first publishers to genuinely serve this demographic will gain a structural competitive advantage.

> Is that so? I don't agree. There are tons of nostalgic games out there, so many remakes, so many collections of decade old games.... And just look at GOG. Their entire platform is based on Good Old Games. We literally have "Boomer Shooters". So, no, I don't think, we are neglecting older gamers.
