# Nucleus wants to get ahead of scanners on new vulnerabilities

**[CSO Online](https://daily.dev/sources/csoonline)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Nucleus Security is launching Nucleus Helix, an AI agent for natural-language interaction with exposure data, alongside Nucleus Discover (with an Early Warning System called NEWS) and expanded Nucleus Insights. The goal is to identify systems potentially affected by newly disclosed vulnerabilities before traditional scanner plugins are published, narrowing the scope for active scanning. Co-founder Scott Kuffer cited CVE-2026-44416, a CVSS 9.8 vulnerability disclosed August 20, which Nucleus says it detected and confirmed in customer environments while major scanners like Tenable still lacked a detection plugin. Nucleus Insights is available now; Helix and Discover with Early Warning launch in September.

## Questions this post answers

### What new features is Nucleus Security launching for vulnerability detection?

Nucleus Security is adding Nucleus Helix, an AI agent for natural-language interaction with exposure data and workflows, along with Nucleus Discover and its Early Warning System (NEWS), and expanded Nucleus Insights. Nucleus Insights is available immediately, while Helix and Nucleus Discover with Early Warning are scheduled to launch in September.

### How does Nucleus Discover's Early Warning System detect vulnerabilities before scanners do?

It combines real-time vulnerability and threat intelligence from Nucleus Insights with data already collected about a customer's environment, such as software inventory, asset ownership, and existing exposure data, to flag potentially affected systems before scanner signatures exist. It is not meant to replace active scanning but to give teams a targeted starting point, narrowing which systems need confirmation scans.

### What is CVE-2026-44416 and how quickly was it detected?

CVE-2026-44416 is a vulnerability with a CVSS score of 9.8, first published on August 20. Nucleus Security says it found and confirmed the CVE in numerous customer environments by August 21, provided patch guidance and a threat-informed rating downgrading it to Medium severity, while scanners such as Tenable had not yet published a detection plugin for it.
