Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is deploying three new supercomputers — Mission, Vision, and Veritas — built on the HPE Cray GX5000 architecture with NVIDIA Vera CPUs and Rubin GPUs. Early benchmarks show the Vera CPU outperforms x86 CPUs in Crossroads by over 3x on Monte Carlo simulation workloads and 7x on URSA (Universal Research and Scientific Agent) workloads. The systems will support agentic AI for science, enabling AI agents to form hypotheses, run simulations, and analyze results autonomously. Mission and Vision are expected to be operational in 2027, with Veritas serving as a testbed for agentic AI technologies.
