OpenTelemetry now offers a single-command installation on Linux hosts via APT and YUM/DNF package managers. The new `opentelemetry` package installs the OpenTelemetry Injector alongside auto-instrumentation SDKs for Java, .NET, Node.js, and Python. The Injector hooks into process startup to activate auto-instrumentation without any code or deployment script changes. Telemetry can be sent directly to an OTLP endpoint or routed through a local OpenTelemetry Collector. This work is driven by the newly established Packaging SIG, with plans to add Collector packages, eBPF-based instrumentation for Go/Rust/C++, and Ruby support on the roadmap.
