# Open-Source Etnaviv Driver Now Able To Run YOLOX

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 1 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

The reverse-engineered open-source Etnaviv driver, which provides accelerated graphics and NPU support for Vivante GPU/NPU IP, can now run the YOLOX object detection model. Developer Tomeu Vizoso, who leads Etnaviv's AI/NPU work and Mesa's Teflon framework, brought up YOLOX on Vivante VIP NPUs like those in the NXP i.MX8M Plus. YOLOX is more capable than the previously supported SSDLite MobileDet model, and additional operations were added to the driver to make this possible.

## Questions this post answers

### Does the open-source Etnaviv driver support running YOLOX on Vivante NPUs?

Yes, the Etnaviv driver stack now runs YOLOX object detection on Vivante VIP NPUs, such as the one found in the NXP i.MX8M Plus. This is an upgrade from the previously supported SSDLite MobileDet model, made possible after developer Tomeu Vizoso added various new operations and other changes to the reverse-engineered driver.

### What NPU model support did Etnaviv have before adding YOLOX?

Before YOLOX, the Etnaviv driver supported the SSDLite MobileDet object detection model on Vivante NPU hardware. YOLOX is a more capable model, and getting it running required additional operations and driver changes beyond what SSDLite MobileDet needed, making YOLOX the new flagship model for the driver stack.
