GitHub has launched open source license compliance in public preview for GitHub Enterprise Cloud customers with Advanced Security licenses. The feature enables enterprises to enforce centralized license policies across all repositories using ruleset-based checks. When developers open pull requests that add or modify dependencies, automated license checks run against the policy and annotate any noncompliant dependencies. Violations must be resolved by removing/replacing the dependency, updating the policy, or creating package exceptions. A new enterprise role, Enterprise Open Source License Policy Manager, is introduced to handle policy review and approval workflows.
