# Open-Source Success Achieved For Greater Transparency & Security: Running AMD openSIL + Coreboot On EPYC

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

AMD's openSIL open-source CPU silicon initialization library, combined with Coreboot, is now running on Zen 5 EPYC 9005 hardware thanks to 3mdeb's Dasharo firmware port for the Gigabyte MZ33-AR1 server motherboard. This marks a significant milestone after three years of development since AMD announced openSIL in 2023 as a future replacement for AGESA. The setup can be flashed directly via the BMC web interface, enabling Secure Memory Encryption by default. While AMD targets production readiness for Zen 6, the current implementation already works well in practice. A similar Coreboot+openSIL port for MSI desktop Ryzen hardware is also in progress.
