# OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT

**[Collections](https://daily.dev/sources/collections)** · 3 min read · 11 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

OpenAI is rolling out GPT-6 along with a new feature called Intelligent UI to all ChatGPT users. Intelligent UI aims to deliver faster, more visual, and interactive responses, surfacing interactive tools directly within answers rather than requiring separate steps. The announcement was made on OpenAI's account and amplified by a repost, but no further technical details have been shared, leaving actual behavior to be seen as users try it.

## Content

OpenAI is shipping a new version of GPT-6 to everyone in ChatGPT, along with a feature called Intelligent UI. Instead of a wall of text, ChatGPT can now answer with tappable buttons, editable graphs, interactive charts and calculators built for a single question.

## Rollout

Intelligent UI launches Wednesday for Pro, Plus, Business and Enterprise users. Free and Go users get it Thursday. @thsottiaux said the release brings together model and infrastructure improvements to scale it to 1.2B users. @testingcatalog noted that GPT-6.1 doesn't appear to be coming to ChatGPT yet.

## What it does

OpenAI's stated goal is making "learning complex topics easier." Demonstrated examples include diagrams of airplane wing lift, bicycle mechanics, hiking maps, scalable recipe planners, bill-splitting tools built from receipts, and savings calculators. Users who find the visuals excessive can dial them back, like other personality settings. Google Gemini already has a similar feature.

OpenAI built a library of ready-made interface components and a compiler that renders them as the answer streams. GPT-6 was trained to pick the layout, or plain text when that fits better. The model also starts answering before it finishes thinking: OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant begins web-search answers 44% sooner than GPT-5.6 Instant, which it replaces. The company also plans to have ChatGPT generate more of the interfaces people need for everyday tasks, so users describe a goal instead of learning fixed software.

## How it works under the hood

A team that took the feature apart, as relayed by @rohanpaul_ai, reports that the agent never writes raw code. The system uses:

- a custom UI language called DIL
- server-side compilation
- a sandboxed runtime
- about 70 native UI components
- interactions that need no additional AI calls

## Early reactions

@emollick had early access and called it a nice change from walls of text. He thinks we'll increasingly see interfaces built on demand for the problem at hand. @jxnlco was blunter ("Intelligent UI slaps"): a scheduled task found him a workout slot, showed the workout with a visualization, and saved it to a space. Another user testing GPT-6 in Chat called it "absolutely incredible."

One side effect @emollick flagged: GPT-6 Pro regularly finds supposed errors in academic papers as a byproduct of other work. Confirming them and judging their importance still takes a lot of time, and he says we don't have the mechanisms to handle a flood of corrections.

## Usage milestone

@thsottiaux also reported a new high of 40M active users across Codex and ChatGPT Work. To mark it, OpenAI is loading a banked reset into everyone's paid accounts.

## Questions this post answers

### What is Intelligent UI in ChatGPT?

Intelligent UI is a ChatGPT feature that delivers faster, more visual, and interactive responses. Everyday questions get more visual answers, complex topics become easier to grasp, and interactive tools for a task appear directly within the response instead of requiring a separate step. It is rolling out alongside GPT-6 to all ChatGPT users.

## Community take

How the wider developer community reacted, aggregated from 1 discussion and 87 comments across x (as of 2026-10-12).

**TL;DR:** Almost all the engagement centers on one researcher's claim that GPT-6 is surfacing possible errors in academic papers faster than anyone can verify them, with people largely agreeing this shifts the bottleneck from finding errors to confirming and triaging them, rather than discussing GPT-6 or Intelligent UI themselves.

**Sentiment:** 10% positive · 25% mixed · 65% skeptical

**The case for**

- Some see error-flagging as a genuinely useful auditing tool, effectively giving peer review "a coworker who works weekends."
- One account describes a real-world case where flagged unit errors flipped a paper's conclusion and led to an erratum.

**The pushback**

- Many worry that cheap, high-volume error flagging will flood journals and authors with unverified claims faster than anyone can adjudicate them.
- Several argue verification/reproduction, not detection, is the real bottleneck and current publishing infrastructure isn't built for this volume.
- Some suspect many flagged "errors" are nitpicks, false positives, or hallucinated issues rather than substantive problems.
- A few question who should even own the responsibility of checking and triaging AI-flagged corrections (authors, journals, or a new third party).

**By community**

- x (skeptical): Replies focus almost entirely on worries that AI-driven error detection in papers will outpace the field's ability to verify and triage corrections.

**Hottest debate:** Whether the growing flood of AI-flagged paper errors is a valuable audit tool or an unmanageable verification burden with no clear owner.

**Open questions**

- Who should own verification and triage of AI-flagged errors — authors, journals, or a new independent body?
- Should flagged errors be required to include a reproducible check or minimal counterexample before being surfaced?
- How should flagged issues be ranked by severity so real errors aren't buried under nitpicks?
- Will journals build new editorial workflows or infrastructure to handle this volume of corrections?

**Highlights**

> @emollick I doubt this generalises. Found substantial errors in a NZ Med Journal piece, flipping its conclusion. Out by 2-3 orders of magnitude - confusion in units. Paper looked wrong based on priors; AI showed the error. I told the authors and they'll be publishing an erratum. Seems

> @emollick A data point on the confirmation cost: of the 722 manuscripts OpenAI released on Oct 6, three were withdrawn the next day over a single sign error. Finding is fast; checking is still where the time goes.

> @emollick in life sciences papers the errors are most of the time over interpretations, substantial mechanistic errors and also reproducibility errors from the available data. they are definitely not nitpicks.
> — [friiedaaaaaa on x](https://x.com/friiedaaaaaa/status/2109538035909959833)

> @emollick It's the linter problem. Turn on a strict linter in an old codebase and you get thousands of warnings, and the team fixes almost none of them. Finding errors got cheap. Ranking them by how much they matter didn't.

> @ketansingh279 Crossmark tracks publisher-reported corrections and retractions: For unverified reports, I'd want the exact passage and a reproducible check attached. Otherwise readers inherit a second pile of claims to verify.

> I think that for normal users (normal being whoever uses AI without knowing how it works like it's a Siri on steroids) all this model-choosing is confusioning. In the future I see it like iOS updates, yeah we changed a few UI things, stick with it
