The project runs on a bare Qorvo DW3110 UWB radio paired with an nRF5340 SoC and an NFC reader, without relying on a UWB coprocessor module. The author shares key insights from reverse-engineering the approach-unlock flow: all application data travels over BLE while UWB is used purely for distance measurement, the ranging key is derived independently on both sides and never transmitted, and timing recovery from the first clear-text packet was the breakthrough that made live distance readings work.
