# OpenCAL: Computed Axial Lithographic 3D Printing For Everyone

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 2 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

OpenCAL is an open-source implementation of Computed Axial Lithographic (CAL) 3D printing, descended from Berkeley research. Unlike traditional layer-by-layer resin printers, CAL spins a vat of specially viscous photopolymer resin while a projector (NexiGo Nova Mini) exposes it, producing parts rapidly with SLA-level spatial resolution and no FEP film. The project now includes full documentation, a GitHub repository, and resin mixing instructions (with safety warnings). FormLabs is partnering to supply pre-mixed resin for those who prefer not to handle the chemicals themselves.
