OpenXR Introduces Tiered Adopter Fees to Expand Its Ecosystem of Conformant Implementations

Khronos is introducing tiered subscription fees for the OpenXR Adopter Program, scaling costs based on company size (employee count). Previously, a flat fee structure made official conformance costly for smaller organizations. The new tiers reduce the financial barrier while keeping the same technical conformance requirements. Adopters gain the right to submit test results, use the OpenXR name and logo, benefit from patent licensing protections, and be listed in the Khronos Conformant Products database. Non-profit open-source implementers may request a fee waiver. The goal is to grow the ecosystem of officially conformant XR runtimes, headsets, and SDKs, giving application developers more deployment targets and more reliable portability across XR platforms.
