OpenJDK's Governing Board approved an interim policy broadly banning AI-generated content in contributions, citing reviewer burden, safety/security concerns for mission-critical systems, and unresolved IP ownership questions around AI-generated output. GraalVM, an Oracle Labs project, permits AI-assisted contributions but places full accountability on the human contributor, who must be able to explain, defend, and maintain any AI-assisted change. Both projects use the same Oracle Contributor Agreement.
