The device uses Thunderbolt PCIe tunneling, causing drives to appear as native NVMe namespaces rather than USB storage. Benchmark results on ext4 show sequential reads of 729 MB/s and writes of 669 MB/s per bay, with real-world 5GB file transfers completing in ~4.5 seconds. NTFS performance is significantly worse due to Linux's FUSE-based ntfs-3g driver overhead. Key limitations include no RAID support, no passthrough port for daisy-chaining, and no fan speed control. At $219 for a diskless enclosure, it's best suited for video editors or users with spare NVMe drives needing fast desk-side storage.
