# Photographing Rocket Chute Deployment At 10 Km

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 1 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

BPS.space (Joe) is building a custom rocket selfie camera designed to eject from a high-power rocket at apogee (~10 km) and photograph chute deployment. The camera uses a deconstructed GoPro on a spring-and-servo sled, but tiny torques caused unpredictable pointing. After multiple iterations, Joe settled on a semi-active stabilization system using a brass weight on a small motor to keep the camera oriented toward the rocket. The camera has no parachute, so mass is kept low to limit terminal velocity impact damage. The design is still pre-flight but represents a meaningful engineering compromise.
