<h3>Tired of Laravel’s Magic? Meet the Framework for Adults</h3>
So, Yii3 is finally out. It’s been a long-haul project—so long that some of you probably thought it had pulled a “Half-Life 3” and would never actually arrive. But here it is.
Yii remains the 3rd most popular PHP framework in the world, trailing only behind Symfony (my respect) and Laravel (…).
Please ask juniors to leave the room. We’re about to discuss good and bad programming patterns, SOLID, and other concepts that weren’t used during Laravel’s creation, so they might traumatize an impressionable mind.
Yii3 has ditched “DX”, magic methods, facades, and the like in favor of common sense, readability, and native IDE support. While working with Laravel requires you to memorize the docs, in Yii3, a decent IDE + Ctrl and a click (or Command, if you’re a graphic designer or a manager) are all you need to understand everything.
This is for the adults in the room. Those who actually care about the long-term cost of maintenance, cost of development and aren’t afraid of building something bigger than a “Todo” app.

In the Laravel world, everything is “magic.” You call a static method on a class that isn’t actually static, which proxies to a class you can’t find, which was registered in a service provider you forgot existed. It’s a great game for kids, but a nightmare for static analysis.

Let’s talk performance. Yii3 is fast. And if you pair it with FrankenPHP, it becomes obscenely fast (like you in your ex’s stories).

Is Yii3 perfect? No. There are compromises. Not 100% of the codebase is strictly typed yet, and you’ll still find places where pragmatism won over pure architectural purity.
Yes, you’ll write more code. Yes, you’ll have to actually think about your architecture. And yes, you might actually understand how your application works without having to grep through the <code>vendor</code> folder for hours.
Yii3 is for those who realize that “shorter code” isn’t always “better code.” If you’re ready to stop playing with magic tricks and start engineering software, welcome home.
Is there any point in using Laravel? Sure, if your project is small, doesn’t require extreme performance, and won’t need long-term complex maintenance—just use what you know and what’s faster for development. Personally, I’d choose Nuxt for such tasks, but you do you. The Laravel + Filament combo allows you to build disgusting things in seconds. So why not? Cash is king, after all.
But if you’re planning something complex and large: build your front-end with Nuxt, Next, or Flutter, and your REST API with Yii3.
And one last thing: should you generate HTML with Yii? I don’t think so. That’s just gross in 2026 [gagging sounds, followed by rapidly receding footsteps].

While I share your dislike of Laravels static methods and magic, I don’t support your disgust, tone and distinction between “adults” and “juniors”. I also don’t like your bottom line image (joke). In my opinion it’s kinda gross. Would have worked better with a non sexualised butt.
I took a look at Yii3’s source and it seems to be a good framework. It’s similar to mine that I am using in production and continiously improving since more than 15 years. If I had to switch, I would consider Yii3 as an alternative option. Also Symfony and Laminas, the success of Zend Framework. Thanks to PSR and their modular architecture, you can use components of different frameworks together, if you want to.
My point is: While I share your technical perspective, I can’t agree and support your “hate” and “arrogance” that I felt in your words while reading your post. It’s not necessary for your statement, that Laravel tends to attract developers who probably don’t understand lower level fundamentals considered as basics by more experienced devs. To be frank, it’s the same in the Node/Deno/Bun world with React and co. There are more and more abstraction layers that even the chosen programing language itself gets abstracted away. While I personally like to understand what I am doing to a lower level, I don’t think that it’s necessary in many business use cases these days.
I also think that we will face more disposable and one purpose software in the feature, created by non-devs. While long-term software projects won’t die and thus the usecase for frameworks like Yii3, I think that its numbers will actually go down and that Laravel is necessary to keep PHP not just alive, but to avoid that the webdev industry completely shifts to JS.

An idiotic, childish approach to marketing might gain you a few PHP edgelords, a niche within a niche market, it is a turn off for most.

I could have agreed on some points. I too dislike the whole <code>Facade</code> thing and typically don’t use it when it I don’t need to. But the post claims <code>Adults</code> whilst being articulated like a <code>Child</code>.
Weak, do better.

What Framework are my children supposed to use if this new PHP Framework is only for Adults? I want them to learn the joy of PHP, but an 18+ age rating for a Framework? Sounds too dangerous for my kids. They will have to learn Laravel instead, to prevent their innocent minds from being corrupted. (I don’t actually write PHP, this is satire) I applaud the hustle of this community.
