## Summary

Researchers present a pilot-reference-free continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) protocol that encodes secret keys on the amplitude of coherent states rather than relying on a high-energy pilot signal for phase drift correction. This eliminates pilot-induced crosstalk and simplifies digital signal processing. Security is analyzed under collective attacks, and a proof-of-principle experiment demonstrates operation over both an optical fiber channel and a free-space channel with biaxially oriented polypropylene, even when the signal phase is fully randomized, showing adaptability to optical path fluctuations in complex channels.
