Playdate maker Panic is refunding customers the 19% tariff surcharge it had collected during a period when US tariffs on imported goods were in effect, after the Supreme Court ruled those tariffs illegal under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Panic co-founder Cabel Sasser said the company had to file paperwork to claim its refund from the government and built a system to pass it back to affected customers. Unlike larger companies such as Nintendo, which is keeping its $300 million refund and facing lawsuits over it, Panic chose to return the money, joining a small group of companies (mostly shipping firms like UPS) doing so.
