Powering the next wave of AI: Expanding capacity with our new datacenter in Pecos

Microsoft is announcing a new multibillion-dollar datacenter campus in Pecos, Texas, adding approximately 2 gigawatts of capacity to its global infrastructure. The project, expected to unfold over five to seven years, is designed to meet growing customer demand for AI and cloud services. It will include a co-located natural gas power facility operating behind the meter at launch, with plans to eventually connect to the broader grid. Microsoft emphasizes community engagement, local job creation (6,000+ construction jobs at peak, hundreds of permanent roles), workforce development programs, and sustainability measures including closed-loop cooling systems and renewable energy contracts.
