Prisma ORM's migration from a Rust-based query engine to a TypeScript/WASM Query Compiler is now in Preview for all major SQL databases and production-ready as of v6.16+. Benchmarks show up to 11x faster queries for complex joins and large datasets, a 90% reduction in bundle size (from ~14MB to 1.6MB), and lower CPU footprint by eliminating the native binary. Simple queries show minimal difference. The Rust-free architecture also improves compatibility with edge runtimes like Cloudflare Workers, Deno, and Bun. Prisma v7 will make this the default. Developers can opt in now via the queryCompiler and driverAdapters Preview feature flags.
