A checkout UI restyle that pushes a date shouldn't force a roadmap rewrite unless it actually changes the technical outcome, like new pricing rules or a different ledger owner. Includes links to the author's own site with a worked example. ## Content _If the bet was the skin, you never had a technical plan._ You're in the Q3 steering room. Brand restyled the funnel last week. Someone shares a new slide before the meeting ends. The old one said "new checkout — September." The new one says "new checkout — November." Same tickets. New costume. The room wants you to rebuild the technical plan around the skin. Don't. A product rewrite is allowed to move the _skin_. It is not automatically allowed to move the _bet_. Checkout restyles three times. If your technical bet was "ship the new checkout," you will rewrite the deck three times and call it agility. If your bet was "pricing logic leaves the monolith," the restyle is noise. The bet still holds. You renegotiate only when the rewrite changes the technical outcome — new pricing rules, a different ledger, a partner who now owns the calculation. That is the whole test. Did the ask change what the system must become, or did it change how the system looks while it gets there? Skin is the second one. Most "the roadmap is stale" meetings are the second one wearing a crisis voice. "Be agile — don't roadmap" is abdication with better branding. Adaptive planning still plans. The plan is a tool for gauging the effect of a change: if this ask lands, what leaves? If the bet cannot survive a sprint-level rewrite, it was a feature list. Write a smaller bet or admit you are running a delivery queue and stop calling it a roadmap. The Forecast Ritual rebuilds the slide because the slide _was_ the skin. A short sheet does not move. The extract is still the extract. Wallet UI still does not start. You will feel the pressure to "just update the dates." Updating the dates is how the pile puts the costume back on. The honest move is a sentence in the same doc the exec already saw: the bet holds, or the bet dies, and here is what came off the board so the restyle could land.
