Mei, MIT professor emeritus of civil and environmental engineering and a leading figure in ocean wave hydrodynamics and fluid mechanics, died at 91 on July 16 in Waltham, Massachusetts. Over 45 years at MIT starting in 1965, he authored more than 300 publications cited over 14,000 times, coauthored landmark books on ocean surface waves and homogenization methods, and later extended his mathematical approach to biofluid dynamics, including cochlear flow research.
