Prompts in AI coding workflows accumulate technical debt just like code does, but in a worse way: they decay silently with each model upgrade rather than causing obvious errors. Carefully crafted AGENTS.md files or bespoke agentic setups built around one model may become ineffective or counterproductive when the underlying model changes. The recommendation is to use third-party maintained AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) with minimal configuration, avoid MCP and skill files unless necessary, and keep AGENTS.md files limited to concrete project facts rather than behavior-steering instructions.
