Qualcomm engineers have submitted an RFC to the Linux kernel mailing list proposing Synx, a SoC-wide synchronization framework designed to coordinate fences between Linux-hosted clients and non-Linux execution environments like remote processors and firmware. Unlike DMA fence, which targets GPU/display synchronization, Synx aims to provide a global synchronization mechanism spanning multiple subsystems and processors while still integrating with existing Linux primitives. The framework is vendor-agnostic and has demonstrated significant power and performance benefits across recent Qualcomm mobile and XR chipsets.
