RAKwireless has released the WisMesh Pi HAT RAK6421, a modular expansion board for Raspberry Pi 4/5 that enables always-on Meshtastic gateways. Unlike fixed-radio LoRa HATs, it features two WisBlock IO slots and four sensor slots, letting users swap LoRa modules (RAK13300 or the 1W RAK13302) without USB adapters or breadboard wiring. It supports SPI, I²C, UART, analog inputs via a 16-bit ADC, and a range of WisBlock sensor modules including GPS, environmental sensors, and RTCs. On the software side, RAKwireless provides a ready-to-use Raspberry Pi image with meshtasticd pre-installed, plus open-source scripts to set up Mosquitto MQTT, InfluxDB, Node-RED, and Grafana. The board is officially supported by Meshtastic and is available on AliExpress starting at $12.50 for the standalone board, with full bundles including a Raspberry Pi up to $205.99.
