# React 19: A Deep Dive into the Performance Debate and Delayed Release

**[Collections](https://daily.dev/sources/collections)** · 2 min read · 20 upvotes · 8 comments

## Summary

React 19's release has been delayed due to significant community backlash over changes to the Suspense component and sibling pre-rendering, particularly the switch to sequential data fetching which impacted performance. The React team is working to address these issues following developer feedback. The post also touches on broader industry updates, including Retool’s findings on vector databases, Netlify’s integration with Adobe Experience Manager, and JetBrains enhancing its AI Assistant with Google’s DeepMind Gemini models.

# Understanding the Controversy and Delayed Release of React 19

React 19 has been a hot topic in the developer community due to significant updates introduced to the Suspense component and sibling pre-rendering. While these changes were intended to enhance performance, they sparked considerable debate, especially among developers who rely on traditional data-fetching patterns.

## The Suspense Component Changes

One of the primary issues centers around how the `<Suspense />` component manages data fetching. In React 19, the behavior shifted to fetching data sequentially rather than in parallel. This alteration had a profound impact on many popular libraries, leading to performance concerns across existing applications.

## Community Backlash and Reaction

Henrique Yuji from Code Miner underscored the considerable backlash from the community regarding these changes. Developers voiced their frustrations as the new data-fetching behavior disrupted established workflows and hampered application performance. The uproar was significant enough to catch the attention of the React team, who acknowledged the feedback.

## Release Delay and Next Steps

Due to these widespread concerns, the React team decided to delay the official release of React 19. They are now focusing on finding a better solution that addresses the community's issues without compromising on performance improvements. This delay underscored the importance of user feedback in shaping the evolution of major frameworks like React.

## Broader Implications and Industry News

While the controversy around React 19 unfolded, other industry developments also came to light. Retool's 2024 State of AI report revealed a significant increase in the usage of vector databases, reflecting broader shifts in data management technologies. In addition, Netlify’s new integration with Adobe Experience Manager aimed to streamline web development processes. Meanwhile, JetBrains announced that its AI Assistant now leverages Google's DeepMind Gemini language models for enhanced capabilities.

## Conclusion

The discussions around React 19 have highlighted both the challenges and the responsiveness inherent in software development. As the React team works towards a more balanced solution, developers are reminded of the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of their tools and frameworks. This ongoing dialogue ensures that the end products are not only innovative but also in tune with the needs of the developer community.

> I suppose that this comes to no surprise. React and Angular have been struggling with their inherent performance problems for several years, while competitors like Solid and Svelte simply cruise with their state of the art cores and ground-breaking paradigms.

> Many people have realized that maybe React is at its end. I guess we're witnessing React's last attempt at staying competitive. We'll see if they succeed. Personally, I doubt it and this is why I moved to Svelte already since a year ago.
