# Real-time spam detection

**[daily.dev Changelog](https://daily.dev/sources/daily_updates)** · [@idoshamun](https://daily.dev/idoshamun) · 2 min read · 55 upvotes · 23 comments

## Summary

daily.dev rolled out real-time spam detection using Jev, an AI model from TypeSafe, that screens new accounts, posts, and comments as they're created or edited. It blocks spam signups (casinos, supplements, shady services) and removes off-topic link drops from feeds and comment threads without captchas or extra friction, while still allowing genuine self-promotion like open-source projects and technical posts. Automated moderation decisions are logged and reviewable, with a process to restore anything flagged by mistake.

## Content

daily.dev works best when your feed and the comments under it are full of developers talking to developers. So we gave our spam defenses a serious upgrade.

We now use Jev, TypeSafe's AI model, to spot spam the moment it shows up. It checks new accounts, posts and comments in real time and quietly keeps the junk out of your way.

## How it works

- **Spam accounts get caught at signup.** Profiles made to advertise casinos, supplements, shady services or marketing agencies are stopped before they ever reach you.
- **Spam posts stay out of your feed.** Posts shared on profiles and in Squads are checked as soon as they go live, and again when they're edited.
- **Cleaner comment threads.** New comments, replies and edits get checked too, so random link drops that have nothing to do with the discussion disappear.
- **It all happens in the background.** No captchas, no extra steps, nothing slowing you down.

## Sharing your work is still welcome

Built an open-source project? Made a dev tool? Wrote a deep technical post? Share it. Indie developers showing off what they made are a big part of what makes daily.dev fun, and Jev knows the difference.

What gets filtered is promotion that has nothing to do with developers: gambling, pills, SEO filler, and businesses using the community as a free billboard.

## Mistakes get fixed

Automated decisions are logged and reviewed, and anything caught by mistake gets restored. If you think something of yours was hidden by accident, reach out and we'll take a look.

---

Spot something that slipped through? Hit **Report** so we can keep things clean. And tell us in the comments how your feed feels this week.

I had to create a launch video for this one. Enjoy!
