# Rebuilding PubHub: AI-first SDLC, one bottleneck at a time – Part 2

## Summary

Cisco's DevNet team built an AI-first software development lifecycle while rewriting PubHub, its documentation publishing platform. The legacy system spanned more than 15 repositories in Python, Node.js, Go and React services. AI first generated architecture documentation for the legacy system, then drafted requirements, built a pilot UI, and eventually wrote whole features with Claude Code rather than just autocompleting lines. Code review became a bottleneck, so the team built review skills for Go, Python and React and two review agents, while still requiring human approval. A testing framework compared tens of thousands of pages against production, and no critical or high-severity issues have been reported since launch. The team built or adopted more than 20 reusable AI skills plus two review agents.

## Questions this post answers

### How did Cisco use AI to review code during the PubHub rewrite without removing human approval?

Cisco built review skills for Go, Python and React plus two review agents, one run locally before opening a pull request and one that reviews the pull request itself. These agents find issues and explain them, but the human reviewer still owns the decision and the approval for every change.

_Teams scaling AI-assisted code review while keeping humans accountable follow cases like this on daily.dev._

### How did Cisco test that a rewritten documentation platform rendered content identically to the old one?

Cisco built a comparison framework that checked tens of thousands of pages built by the rewritten PubHub platform against the production version, catching rendering differences before readers would notice them. AI agents also drove a headless browser through complex UI workflows, cutting manual testing effort significantly. No critical or high-severity issues were reported after launch.

_Developers planning large rewrites with regression risk can track testing strategies like this on daily.dev._

### What AI coding tool did Cisco's engineers switch to for writing full features instead of just code completion?

Cisco's engineers moved from code completion in VS Code with GitHub Copilot and Cursor to Claude Code, which became available to the team and could write full features, including tests, directly from a requirement. This shift to handing over whole features rather than typing faster produced the biggest time savings in the PubHub rewrite.

_Developers evaluating Claude Code against Copilot or Cursor compare real adoption stories on daily.dev._
