A hardware hacker salvaged two 5 GB eMMC chips from Xbox One S mainboards and combined them onto a custom carrier board using a Norelsys NS1081 USB 3.0 controller IC, creating a 10 GB USB flash drive. After reballing and programming the controller, the drive achieved ~140 MB/s sequential read and ~64 MB/s write speeds. The project highlights growing interest in repurposing console hardware components amid rising RAM and storage costs, with the DDR3 and GDDR5 chips on these boards also noted as potential recycling candidates.
