# Red Hat's Tuned 2.28 To Improve Out-Of-The-Box WiFi Power Savings On Fedora

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Tuned 2.28, Red Hat's tuning profile delivery mechanism for Linux, was released with a fix for WiFi power-savings on Fedora and similar distributions. Previously Tuned relied on iwpriv by default, but Fedora dropped that package, causing systems to lose out-of-the-box WiFi power savings; the new release switches to using iw instead, which is now also an RPM build dependency, while keeping iwpriv for legacy support. Other changes include raising the AVC cache threshold to 8192 in the network-latency profile (versus the RHEL9/RHEL10 default of 512, which caused latency spikes), improved error messages, more build documentation, systemd integration changes, and additional network coalescing options.

## Questions this post answers

### Why did Fedora lose out-of-the-box WiFi power savings and how was it fixed in Tuned 2.28?

Fedora stopped carrying the iwpriv package, which Tuned relied on by default for enabling WiFi power savings, causing systems to lose this optimization out-of-the-box. Tuned 2.28 fixes this by switching WiFi power management handling to use iw instead, which is now an RPM build dependency for Tuned, while retaining iwpriv support for legacy systems.

### What changed with the AVC cache threshold in Tuned's network-latency profile?

Tuned 2.28 raises the AVC cache threshold to 8192 in the network-latency profile. On RHEL9 and RHEL10 the default setting is 512, which has been observed to cause latency spikes for networking workloads, so the higher threshold addresses that issue.

_Networking engineers tuning RHEL latency profiles can track fixes like this via daily.dev._
