Renesas Upgrades DDR5 MRDIMM Chipset

Renesas has launched its third-generation DDR5 MRDIMM chipset, featuring the RRG5013 multiplexed registering clock driver and RRG5103 multiplexed data buffer. The Gen 3 solution reaches speeds up to 16,000 MT/s, delivering 25% higher memory bandwidth than its predecessor while maintaining compatibility with existing DDR5 infrastructure. Key improvements include device equalization self-train mode quality indication for better timing and margin tuning. Targeting AI data centers, cloud infrastructure, and HPC workloads, the chipset also addresses thermal and power constraints. Sampling is underway with select customers including major DRAM suppliers, with production expected in the second half of 2027.
