# Repairing A RED Cinema Camera On The Cheap

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A damaged RED Komodo 6K cinema camera was purchased for £700 and successfully repaired at near-zero cost. The issue turned out to be a delaminated glass filter in front of the image sensor caused by overzealous cleaning, rather than actual sensor damage. Disassembly was straightforward due to the camera's modular design, and simply cleaning and reattaching the filter restored full functionality. RED's official repair quotes ranged from $695 for a filter swap to $1,395 for a full sensor replacement, making the DIY approach extremely cost-effective. An alternative repair path using a DSMC2 filter as a substitute is also discussed for cases where the original filter glass is unrecoverable.
