# Report: UK’s £30 Million Quantum Testbed Program Helps Suppliers Advance Toward Commercial Deployment

**[The Quantum Insider](https://daily.dev/sources/thequantuminsider)** · 8 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

The UK's £30 million quantum computing testbed program helped seven suppliers build and deploy prototype systems across five hardware approaches. A National Quantum Computing Centre Phase 1 report says the suppliers, including Quantum Motion, Aegiq, Rigetti, QuEra, Oxford Ionics, ORCA Computing and Infleqtion, gained experience installing and supporting systems outside their own labs at the Harwell Campus. Rigetti upgraded its testbed from 24 to 36 qubits and added Riverlane's Deltaflow system for error-correction experiments. Six testbeds moved into independent technical evaluation, and collaborative projects secured £4.6 million in follow-on funding. The main Phase 2 evaluation is due to finish in Q2 2027.

## Questions this post answers

### How many qubits does Rigetti's UK testbed system have now compared to before the upgrade?

Rigetti upgraded its UK testbed from 24 to 36 qubits as part of the National Quantum Computing Centre's testbed program. The company also integrated Riverlane's Deltaflow system into the testbed to support real-time quantum error-correction experiments.

_Tracking qubit-count progress across quantum vendors gets easier with daily.dev alongside other hardware milestones._

### Which companies supplied systems for the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre testbed program?

Seven suppliers received contracts: Aegiq, Infleqtion, ORCA Computing, Oxford Ionics, Quantum Motion, QuEra and Rigetti. Their systems span five computing approaches, photonics, neutral atoms, trapped ions, silicon-spin qubits and superconducting circuits, deployed mostly at the Harwell Campus in Oxfordshire, with QuEra building its own facility there.

_Comparing quantum hardware vendors across approaches is simpler when daily.dev surfaces industry reports like this one._

### When will the UK's NQCC Phase 2 quantum testbed performance evaluation be complete?

The main Phase 2 program evaluating testbed performance is due to conclude in the second quarter of 2027. Six of the seven testbeds have already entered independent technical evaluation, with one still in pre-evaluation status, and researchers are developing testing frameworks and running algorithms to explore applications in simulation, optimization and machine learning.

_Following national quantum programs through to their evaluation milestones is easier with daily.dev's industry coverage._
