Researchers at the Beijing Institute of Technology have developed a full-color night vision device that translates different infrared wavelengths into distinct visible colors, rather than the single greenish hue used in conventional night-vision goggles. The system combines mercury telluride colloidal quantum dots (which absorb infrared light) with a dual-layer OLED that converts the absorbed energy into visible color. This approach better exploits human vision, since eyes are far more sensitive to hue differences than brightness differences — the limitation of existing IR imaging devices.
