# Restrict access to the production branch

**[Neon](https://daily.dev/sources/neontech)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Neon has introduced protected branches, a feature that prevents accidental deletion or reset of critical database branches (e.g., production, staging) and restricts access to allowlisted IP addresses and networks. Once a branch is marked as protected, it cannot be deleted or reset, and neither can the project or compute endpoints associated with it. Access is limited to IPs defined in the project's IP allowlist. The feature is available on the Neon Scale plan and can be configured via the Neon console in a few steps.
