# Restructuring of Google's Programmable Search Engine Offerings

**[Collections](https://daily.dev/sources/collections)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Google is restructuring its Programmable Search Engine into three products: Programmable Search Element (free, up to 50 domains for site-specific search), Vertex AI Search (enterprise-level solution), and a comprehensive web search requiring direct registration. Existing users can maintain current settings until January 1, 2027, but must migrate if exceeding new limits. New search engines are restricted to 'Sites to search' feature only, and Custom Search JSON API users must transition to new solutions.

## Content

Google has announced significant changes to its Programmable Search Engine offerings, introducing a new structure divided into three distinct products. This restructuring aims to cater to different user needs, including site-specific and enterprise-level search requirements.

The first product, the **Programmable Search Element**, is designed for site-specific searches and will be limited to a maximum of 50 domains. This product remains free of charge, offering a streamlined solution for users who need localized search capabilities on their websites. Users exceeding this domain limit will need to consider alternative options.

For users requiring more robust search solutions, Google offers the **Vertex AI Search**, targeted at enterprise needs. This product is tailored for organizations that need an advanced infrastructure to handle extensive search functionalities.

Lastly, a **comprehensive web search solution** is available, but it requires users to contact Google directly for registration. This option is aimed at users who previously employed the 'Search the entire web' feature or who have configurations that surpass the 50-domain limit.

It is important to note that existing users are permitted to maintain their current settings until January 1, 2027. However, they should plan to migrate to alternative solutions before this deadline, particularly if their configurations exceed the new limits.

Furthermore, new search engines created from this point forward are restricted to using only the 'Sites to search' feature. Additionally, users of the Custom Search JSON API will also need to transition to the new system or an alternative solution.

These changes represent a significant shift in how Google's search tools are offered, encouraging users to utilize the solution best suited to their needs while providing a clear timeline for adaptation.
