<p>The React Compiler rolling out in Rust across Oxlint, SWC, Rspack, and Next.js is the most significant shift in React tooling since hooks. A 7-13x speedup over Babel is not incremental—it’s transformative. The React team has been moving toward a more efficient compiler architecture for years, and this is the payoff. The Rust-based compiler isn’t just faster; it’s a fundamentally different approach to React’s optimization pipeline, with the promise of auto-memoization without <code>useMemo</code>/<code>useCallback</code>. This will change how we write React—or rather, how we don’t think about performance while writing React.</p>
<p>The move of the React Native repo to the <code>/react</code> GitHub org under the React Foundation is also significant—it signals that React and React Native are increasingly treated as part of the same ecosystem, sharing tooling and compiler infrastructure. React Native 0.86 with edge-to-edge Android 15+ support, no breaking changes, and Expo SDK 56 expected to upgrade soon is a stable, polished release. The ecosystem-wide move to Rust is the real story: SWC, Oxlint, Rspack, Biome, pnpm, and now the React Compiler—the era of JavaScript tooling written in JavaScript is ending.
