# Route and orchestrate models with GitHub Copilot Fusion

**[GitHub Changelog](https://daily.dev/sources/github_updates)** · 4 min read · 1 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

GitHub Copilot Fusion is now generally available, letting Copilot automatically route and orchestrate multiple models instead of requiring a manual pick for each task. It combines Project HydraFusion's multi-model orchestration with Copilot's auto model selection. Copilot Fusion Max scored 60 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max, at about half the API cost and tokens and 40% less time per task. Users choose an effort level (Standard, High, Max) and Copilot picks single, cascade, or critique workflows. Paid plan users get a temporary 30% discount on model costs, and it's available in VS Code, the Copilot app, Copilot CLI, and JetBrains IDEs.

## Questions this post answers

### What is GitHub Copilot Fusion and how is it different from picking a model manually?

Copilot Fusion is a system that automatically routes and orchestrates which AI models handle each coding task, rather than requiring a manual model choice. It combines Project HydraFusion's multi-model orchestration with Copilot's auto model selection, using workflows called Single, Cascade, and Critique, and users only pick an effort level (Standard, High, or Max).

_Comparing automated model routing against manual model picking is easier with real benchmark coverage on daily.dev._

### How does Copilot Fusion Max compare to Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max in coding benchmarks?

Copilot Fusion Max scored 60 on the Artificial Analysis Coding Agent Index, within two points of Claude Code with Opus 5.5 Max. It achieved that score at about half the average API cost per task, using roughly half as many tokens and about 40% less time per task.

_Developers picking a coding agent on cost and speed can track benchmark comparisons like this on daily.dev._

### Is there a discount for using GitHub Copilot Fusion and which clients support it?

Users on paid Copilot plans receive a temporary 30% discount on model costs when using Copilot Fusion, billed per model at its standard rate. It's available on all Copilot plans in Visual Studio Code, the GitHub Copilot app, GitHub Copilot CLI, and JetBrains IDEs, with support for additional clients coming.

_Teams budgeting for AI coding tool rollouts can follow pricing and client availability updates on daily.dev._

> The interesting bit isn't auto-picking a model — it's the cascade/critique modes. Effort level as a dial is fine; the part I want gated is which workflow can touch prod or write to shared branches.
