Rust Coreutils 0.9 Released With Additional Security Hardening, Zero-Copy I/O

Rust Coreutils 0.9 has been released, bringing security hardening following a third-party audit funded by Canonical for Ubuntu integration. Key improvements include fixes for security issues, reduced use of unsafe Rust code, zero-copy I/O performance gains for splice/tee/pipe commands, and improved WebAssembly, Cygwin, and Windows support. The GNU Test Suite pass rate dropped from 94.7% to 90.4% due to new test coverage not yet passing, rather than regressions. Canonical aims for full Rust Coreutils adoption in Ubuntu 26.10.
