Rust has entered the top 10 of the Tiobe Programming Community Index for the first time, ranking 10th with a 1.34% rating in July 2026. Tiobe CEO Paul Jansen attributes Rust's rise to its strong focus on memory safety combined with high performance, positioning it as a direct competitor to C and C++, both of which continue to face memory management challenges. Rust also appears in 9th place on the alternative Pypl index with a 2.06% share. The Tiobe index itself celebrates its 25th anniversary this month.
