DigitalOcean has launched Managed Weaviate in public preview, offering a fully managed vector database service starting at $20/month. It handles backups, security patching, version upgrades, high availability, and storage autoscaling. The service runs the unmodified open-source Weaviate engine (v1.37.1) with full API compatibility via GraphQL, REST, and gRPC — no proprietary SDK required. RQ8 compression is enabled by default, reducing RAM usage by ~4x per vector. New features include auto version upgrades, cluster forking, insights and logs, credential rotation, and TLS by default. It integrates with DigitalOcean's broader Data & Learning platform including Knowledge Bases and Inference Engine, with no egress fees between services.
