Schaeffler AG and Spire Global have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop and manufacture satellite hardware in Germany, targeting European sovereign defence customers. Spire brings its Munich facility (capable of 100 satellites per year), flight-proven platform architecture, and software, while Schaeffler contributes precision-manufacturing scale and aerospace supply chain relationships. The partnership is designed to qualify as domestically European for sovereignty-focused procurement, fitting into a broader EU industrial push that includes Ariane 6, the IRIS2 constellation, and new spectrum reservations for European operators.
