DoorDash has implemented a multi-tenancy awareness system for both Kafka producers and consumers that makes the production environment more efficient and developer-friendly for testing new features and patches. They achieve data isolation in multi-tenancy by tagging messages with distinct tenant information using the OpenTelemetry framework. Changes were made to Kafka producer and consumer clients to support multi-tenancy.
