Shopify has released an AI Toolkit that automates the migration of checkout and customer account UI extensions to Polaris web components. The toolkit works with AI coding agents to handle tasks like React-to-Preact conversion, legacy component replacement, and API updates. Polaris web components offer faster rendering than legacy React extensions. This migration is mandatory: by October 1, 2026, apps with extensions on API versions 2025-07 or earlier will be blocked from updates. All API versions 2025-10 and later use Polaris web components by default.
