# Six Labors : Beta 7.

**[Six Labors : ImageSharp](https://daily.dev/sources/sixlabors)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

ImageSharp beta 7 is now available on NuGet, introducing a major API redesign: the Image class is now an abstract, pixel-agnostic base class, and non-generic Image.Load overloads return Image instead of Image<Rgba32>. This is a breaking change requiring recompilation, though most simple usage patterns are unaffected. A new pixel-agnostic Color type replaces the old assumption that Color and Pixel were synonyms, and ColorBuilder<TPixel> and NamedColors<TPixel> are now obsolete and removed. The release bundles 90 PRs including expanded Bmp support, Png text metadata and interlaced encoding, Bokeh Blur algorithms, reduced resizing memory usage, and faster Jpeg encoding.

## Questions this post answers

### Why does Image.Load in ImageSharp beta 7 no longer return Image<Rgba32>?

Starting from ImageSharp beta 7, Image is an abstract, pixel-agnostic base class, and non-generic Image.Load overloads return the pixel-agnostic Image type instead of Image<Rgba32>. This removes the need to deal with the TPixel implementation detail for simple load/resize/save operations and opens optimization opportunities like decoding into native pixel formats. Code relying on Image<Rgba32> specifically must be updated, for example by replacing it with Image or calling Image.Load<Rgba32>(...).

_Developers upgrading ImageSharp can track breaking API changes like this one on daily.dev._

### How do I fix my code after upgrading to ImageSharp beta 7 if it expects Image<Rgba32> from Image.Load?

Replace Image<Rgba32> with the new pixel-agnostic Image type wherever Image.Load(...) is used without a generic parameter, since that method now returns Image instead of Image<Rgba32>. If the code strongly depends on Rgba32-specific behavior, switch to the generic overload Image.Load<Rgba32>(...) instead, which still returns Image<Rgba32>. Code already using var or explicit generic Image.Load<T>(...) calls is unaffected.

_Teams migrating breaking library upgrades often follow guides like this via daily.dev._

### What is the difference between Color and Pixel in ImageSharp beta 7?

Color is now a general, pixel-agnostic type convertible to any pixel representation, while Pixel refers to a specific, often limited representation drawable on an Image<TPixel>. Earlier versions of the library treated Color and Pixel as synonyms, but beta 7 separates them, and this change made the helper classes ColorBuilder<TPixel> and NamedColors<TPixel> obsolete, so they were removed.
